The opioid crisis has grown to be a major public health issue. Studying the crisis’s historical causes, particularly the change in pain treatment procedures and the underestimate of opioids’ potential for addiction. It also highlights the current effects on healthcare systems, socioeconomic structures, and public health, highlighting the complexity of the crisis.
